This is it. The Nikon 8008S and Nikkor AF 28-85mm lens.
I took it out for a spin today and shot a roll while taking a six mile (and change) walk. It shoots like a champ. The autofocus is fast with hardly any focus breathing. The three metering modes (spot, center, and matrix) make shooting in variable conditions easy. Switching between modes like aperture priority and manual is quick and easy.
In fact, all the buttons and such are perfectly placed. I didn’t find myself fumbling around trying to remember what button does what. The layout is very intuitive.
The lens is pretty sweet, too. 28-85mm is a solid range to have all together. There wasn’t much that I thought about shooting day that could have used a longer or wider lens. It’s minimal focus distance is not close, but it’s totally workable. Plus it has a macro setting for getting those tiny things up close.
My roll will be in the mail for developing and scanning on Tuesday, so I’ll share the results as soon as they are done.
Oh, one more thing. The camera has a multiple exposure mode. I used it today, but I’m not sure how well it worked out. I can’t wait to really put it use with a little more planning. Might try a few at the IndyCar race.
I’m going to love shooting with this!
