Bringing kinja into focus, one frame at a time

Tonight at 8:45. PM, SpaceX successfully launched the Falcon 9 Nusantara Satu, Beresheet, and S5 Mission. This was the first Florida rocket launch of 2019. Nusantara Satu is an Indonesian communications satellite. S5 is an Air Force research laboratory. But most importantly is Beresheet, the first privately operated lunar lander. That’s just cool.

I was unable to go over to Cape Canaveral for the launch, so I just shot it from St. Petersburg. The launch pad is about 131 miles away. This was my view as the Falcon 9 took flight, rising above the Snell Isle Bridge and Coffeepot Bayou. My bayou was extra still and glassy tonight, making for some sweet reflections. This is nine consecutive 30-second exposures shot at 24mm, f/6.3, and ISO 100.
