I was able to get reacquainted with the darkroom over the weekend.

A friend runs the photography and darkroom classes at one of our art’s centers/gallery space. He gave me a refresher course so that I’ll be able to go in from time to time to make some prints.

We had enough time to do these three on 5x7 paper. A little dodging here or there, but nothing to crazy. I’ll be making better versions of these with a little more contrast on 8x10 paper next time, plus a few others that I want to play with.

The middle one is actually spot-on as is. The top one will be cropped to just the left half and the darks lightened up for depth. The bottom needs a high contrast treatment. All the blacks need to be black and most of the grey needs to be an even bright white.

It was like riding a bike once we got going. It’s seriously been about 20 years since I last worked in a darkroom. It was so much fun. Can’t wait to do it again.
