The North Rim of the Grand Canyon opened this weekend, so I made my pilgrimage to the higher, less traveled side of the park. You have to drive through the Kaibab National Forest to get there, which is full of pinyon and juniper. If you’ve never had the chance to smell a pinyon and juniper forest, I highly recommend it. It’s one of my favorite smells in the world.

I forgot my polarizing filter, so these aren’t as clear as I’d like them to be. But great visibility at the Grand Canyon is not to be sniffed at.

The trees grow lovely twisted trunks.

The main viewpoints on the North Rim are Bright Angel, Point Imperial, and Cape Royal.

Point Imperial is the highest point of elevation in the park.

And a nice pond reflection in Kaibab.
