Almost exactly one year ago, April 28th, 2016, I went to see The Joy Formidable play here in St. Petersburg. For a variety of reasons, I never went through and edited the pictures. It’s one of those things that if you don’t do it straight away, it gets moved to the back burner. But now, 363 or so days later, they are done.

I absolutely love this band and have had the privilege to see them play three times; two club shows and one festival. They never disappoint. Brit-pop rock anthems with a dash of Sonic Youth.

For those who are not familiar with them, take a few minutes to enjoy this live performance of their halo song “Whirring”. In this clip, they have someone sitting in on harp. Why? Because why not.

With that out of the way, on to my pictures.

This was my first outing with a new camera body and I don’t think I had properly come to terms with how much better it was in low light than the one it replaced. I went a little conservative on the ISO, when I could have gone higher without too much more noise.

The lighting was also an issue. For most of the show, the stage was bathed in all blue, or red. Not ideal for pictures. I didn’t come away with too many keepers, but I’m really happy with what I ended up with.

I took some editing liberties on this one. There were two different colored light sources, blue on the left, white on the right. I got rid of the blues and turned down the yellow and orange a bit. That left me with this, which looks like someone transitioning from black and white into color.
This is my favorite of the bunch. No editing, no adjustments at all. It came straight off the camera like this..
